Needle coke price expected to increase 200 yuan/mt after the end of this year: monthly review

ICC News: Overall needle coke market performance was favorable in December. All major enterprises kept prices at the same level as in last month.
Specifically, domestic coal needle coke prices maintained at 3,300-4,000 yuan/ton; petroleum-based needle coke basically was at 3,300-3,500 yuan/ton for the week.
Jinzhou Petrochemical's petroleum needle coke performed nicely in both production and sales; the shipment in Q4 is estimated to surpass 10,000 tonnes. The person in charge revealed that they don't have plans for maintenance for the moment; its market prices were prevailingly at 3,500-3,600 yuan / ton; and the output of needle coke is expected to reach 30,000 tonnes.
Anshan Kaifeng Carbon's needle coke production lines were under maintenance this week, which is expected to resume operation by March next year.
The company produced 25,000 tonnes of needle coke this year, including 12,000 tonnes of green cokes. It has 7,000 tonnes of inventory right now, with 5,000 tonnes of green coke and 2,000 tonnes of calcined coke. The selling prices remain unchanged.
Baosteel Chemical's needle coke production is expected to start after the Spring Festival.
On overseas market, Japan's  M-grade PCJ Petrocokes petroleum needle coke is $550/ton and that of X-grade is $650/ton.
Philips 66's HNP petroleum needle coke is $500/ton and HSP products $550/ton(ex-warehouse price in bonded area). As for coal needle coke, products from C-CHEM, Mitsubishi Chemical and PMC are all at $450/ton.
On downstream market, sales of graphite electrode were smooth in December; major enterprises made some adjustment to price as continued price rise of raw materials this month added to the cost. However, the raise in graphite electrode price was limited as demand from downstream steelworks remained stable.
As of late December, prevailing prices of 300-600 mm RP graphite electrode in China are 7,500-8,500 yuan/ton, HP products are 9,000-11,000 yuan/mt, and UHP products are 13,000-17,000 yuan/ton.
Statistics show that from January to October, the whole industry generated 14.289 billion yuan in sales revenue, down 9.40% year on year.
